Do, or do you not think tuning your Guitar to some obscure tuning, like CFCFAF or DGCGCD is a waste of fucking time :@!

CGCEGC as well :@!

It is a waste of time. Drop D is understandable. As is tuning everything up a fret.

If do anything other than a standard down tune (C for example) you need to die. You suck at playing your guitar... never touch it again.

Limpcock.... er Slipknot is a perfect example of this alternative tuning wankery crap. I hope their tour bus drives off a cliff and only Joey Jordison survives.

Learn sheet music... ignore the tabs...

Yeah, I'm barely barely barely proficient in reading sheet music. I suck at playing, so it doesn't matter.

I normally try to make up my own stuff. Maybe I'll record one of my horribly played solos for you to laugh at.

The lowest I've gone was some Drop C Tuning, and that was for "playing" (mocking) St. Anger. Otherwise, I very rarely use even Drop D Tuning -- just about everything I play and write is in standard.

Well, I detune my guitar for only two songs, one is drop D for 'Dear Prudence', and that's mostly a finger picking song anyway, so it's not like "POWR-CORD-POWR-CORD-POWR-CORD-WOOT I'M A ROCKER!!!", it actually serves a melodic purpose. The other, I detune the entire guitar a full step, but that's for 'Yesterday'. But, Even for the last one, I'm usually pretty lazy and just leave it all in E.

My bass, however, generally satys in the tuning D/A/D/G, since that's what the guitarist in my band tunes in. All of our songs minus two or three are played in drop D. Meh, I'm not one to judge. Sounds fine, and he does more than power chords, his solos are actually very good. He's far better than I am on guitar, so I keep my mouth shut.

xD I was Mega bored once so i decided to go down to B...Didnt sound too good, kept buzzing and stuff...

You need heavier strings then.

EDIT: I like to keep my guitars as, one of E and one on C. C is just nice so I don't have to move up and down the neck as far when I want to play heavier stuff.

13-56's would probably do the trick, wouldn't they? All else fails, he could just buy strings for a seven string guitar and not use the top E-string.

That should be good enough for B. (Referring to a Shrimpy)Even if it doesn't buzz the lighter strings would sound like ass because the scale of the neck wouldn't work very well.

Oh right, that is true. For that sort of thing, you need a baritone guitar. Schecter makes one in a 26.5"scale neck, the Scorpion, I think.

Now when guitars get as low as basses.... tune up. Please. Drop tunings (except drop D) sound muddy on guitars.

One time I tuned my bass like a 7 string. F#/B/E/A. Wow. That F# sounds scary. But there is one lower tuning for a bass. A C#! My E string almost flopped off when I tried to tune that low. But...ehh... yeah. EADG for me. I might be getting a 5 stringer within the next year or two. I hope.

The 13-56's should work fine though. Unless your guitar HATES low tuning like so many do. (Get ready to buy new springs.)

Yah. During a multi-band concert, I allowed another bass player to use mine. Unfortunately, that band tunned in B...when it was our turn to play, I hit the E and got: 'Buuuwaazzzzzzaaaaazzzzzzaaaaazzzz'. I almost wanted to cry. I felt as though I had been musically molested by proxy. :(

EDIT: dag: Oh shit. By that, I assume it killed your tremlo? That sucks. :(

I put on some 13-56's (too big for C IMO) and it made my floyd rose stand on tippy toes until I added a new spring in there.
